Why?
Coconut contains lauric acid which has anti-inflammatory properties and can help with skin conditions. The flesh and oil are safe in small amounts.
How much can dogs have?
A small piece of flesh or a teaspoon of coconut oil as an occasional treat.
What to watch out for
High in fat and can cause loose stools or pancreatitis in large amounts. Coconut water is high in potassium — not appropriate for dogs with certain health conditions. Do not give coconut husks or shell.
