Why?
The exact toxic compound in macadamia nuts is unknown. Even small amounts can cause serious symptoms including weakness (especially hind legs), vomiting, hyperthermia, and tremors.
How much can dogs have?
NONE. Even 0.1 ounces per pound of bodyweight can cause symptoms.
What to watch out for
Symptoms typically appear within 12 hours and can last up to 48 hours. Usually not fatal but causes significant suffering. Chocolate-covered macadamia nuts are doubly dangerous.
