Why?
Nutmeg contains myristicin, a compound toxic to dogs that can cause severe neurological damage, hallucinations, tremors, seizures, and even death in large doses.
How much can dogs have?
NONE. No nutmeg or foods containing nutmeg (pumpkin pie, eggnog, baked goods).
What to watch out for
Symptoms include disorientation, tremors, seizures, and rapid heart rate. Can take several hours to appear. Call a vet immediately.
๐จ If your dog ate nutmeg: Contact your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 right away. Don't wait for symptoms โ many toxins act internally before signs appear.
