Why?
Peas are rich in vitamins A, K, and B vitamins, plus fiber and protein. They appear in many quality dog foods as a protein source.
How much can dogs have?
A small handful as a treat or food topper. Fresh, frozen, or thawed are all fine.
What to watch out for
Avoid canned peas which are high in sodium. Do not feed peas to dogs with kidney disease as they contain purines. The FDA has investigated links between legume-heavy diets and heart disease โ do not make peas a dietary staple.
