Why?
While small amounts of sodium are necessary, the salt levels in chips, pretzels, crackers, and other snacks are far too high for dogs. Excessive salt consumption causes excessive thirst, urination, and sodium ion poisoning.
How much can dogs have?
NONE intentionally. A single chip will not harm them but making a habit of sharing salty snacks will.
What to watch out for
Salt poisoning symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, elevated temperature, and seizures. Chronic high-sodium intake also stresses kidneys and raises blood pressure.
