Why?
Almonds are not acutely toxic like macadamia nuts but they are not safe either. Dogs don't digest them well and they can cause GI obstruction, pancreatitis, and sodium poisoning if salted.
How much can dogs have?
NONE. The risks outweigh any nutritional benefit.
What to watch out for
Flavored almonds (BBQ, smoked, salted) are especially dangerous due to additives. Even plain almonds can cause GI blockage. Aspiration risk in small dogs.
๐จ If your dog ate almonds: Contact your vet or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 right away. Don't wait for symptoms โ many toxins act internally before signs appear.
