Why?
Oatmeal is a good source of soluble fiber, especially for older dogs with bowel irregularity. It contains vitamins B5 and B9 and linoleic acid.
How much can dogs have?
A tablespoon or two of plain cooked oatmeal mixed into food occasionally.
What to watch out for
Must be cooked — never feed raw oats. Plain only — never flavored instant oatmeal which contains sugar, xylitol, and artificial flavors. Always cooled to room temperature first.
